Holiday to New Zealand? Then you need an NZeTA!

Who doesn't have New Zealand on their bucket list? Rightly so! Nature in New Zealand is wonderful and the country is perfect for the ultimate road and camping trip. If you then decide to make the long and expensive journey to the other side of the world, make sure you are well prepared. Since October 1, 2019 there are new rules about the New Zealand visa. We update you!

The different types of visas

There are many different types of visas that you can use to discover New Zealand. Which visa you need depends, among other things, on what you are going to do in New Zealand (travel, study and/or work) and how long you want to stay there. The most common visas for travellers are an NZeTA), the Working Holiday Visa and the Visitor Visa. We briefly explain to you what the differences are between these New Zealand visas.

NZeTA

The NZeTA is the most suitable visa if you are visiting New Zealand as a holidaymaker and you do not want to stay longer than 3 consecutive months. You can read all details about the validity and conditions of the NZeTA later in this blog.

All about an NZeTA

An NZeTA is the best choice for many travellers: cheap, easy to arrange and valid for a stay of up to 3 months. You are not allowed to work with an NZeTA, but you are allowed to apply for a (paid) job. Volunteer work is also not allowed, but you can study for a maximum of 3 months during a 12-month period.

Period of validity of an NZeTA

An NZeTA is valid for 2 years from the moment it is awarded. During this period, you can enter and leave New Zealand as often as you like. Each stay may be for a maximum of 3 consecutive months and in a 12-month period you may be in New Zealand for a maximum of 6 months with an NZeTA.

Please note: You will not get a stamp in your passport when you arrive in New Zealand. Your arrival date is electronically linked to your passport and it is your responsibility to keep track of when you need to be out of the country.

Conditions for an NZeTA

To qualify for an NZeTA, you must meet a number of requirements. Here are the main New Zealand visa requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a return or onward ticket upon arrival in New Zealand.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from New Zealand.
  • At immigration, you may be asked to provide proof of sufficient financial means to support yourself during your time in New Zealand. So, take some screenshots of the balance in your bank account before you get on that long flight to New Zealand. ;-)
  • If you could be a risk to safety or public order, you may not be allowed to travel to New Zealand. Even if you have been sentenced to a prison sentence or are suspected of a criminal offense for which you may receive a prison sentence, you will most likely not be admitted.
  • You must not have any serious, communicable diseases when you arrive in New Zealand.

If none of this is a problem for you, then you can apply for the NZeTA for New Zealand!

Applying for NZeTA and the costs

If you meet all the above requirements, don't want to work in New Zealand and don't want to stay longer than 3 consecutive months, then an NZeTA is a right choice. You can apply for an NZeTA in two ways: arrange it yourself via the New Zealand immigration app or website or have it arranged by a visa office.

Arranging your visa, yourself is always cheaper, but it is easier through a visa agency. It is therefore entirely up to you and your budget in which way you apply for your visa. If you arrange the NZeTA yourself, you can do this via our website. The processing of your application takes a maximum of 72 hours and you will be kept informed of the status of your application by e-mail.

If you received a different passport after your NZeTA was issued, for example, because your previous one has expired or has been lost, you must provide your new passport number yourself before traveling to New Zealand. This way, immigration can electronically link your NZeTA to your new passport.

If you like it when your application is checked, if you don't have a credit card or if you don't like having to fill in everything in English, a visa office is a good solution. Using our website. you can easily apply for your visa for New Zealand online. They then do the rest! They check your application and are available 24/7.

So, at least your visa is well arranged! If you want to read more in preparation for your trip to New Zealand, check out our page with practical information about the country. Happy Journey!!
